Biography
Kate Osmond was born in 1995, in a small town of Hexham in the North East of England. Raised by creative parents, Kate pursued art from an early age. Her mother is an author, and this imbued in Kate a love and desire to tell stories in anyway she could. She chose to tell her stories through art.
Kate attended Queen Elizabeth High School, where she studied Fine Art at GCSE and A Level. In both examinations she received top marks, and graduated as one of the best in her class. Her final year show saw Kate create hundreds of oragami cranes, which she first used to create a stop-motion film, and then chose to display by hanging them in an intricate spiral in one of the school's attic rooms. The art show was shown in Queen Elizabeth High School's Hydro building, which dates back to the early 20th century, and in previous lives had been a hotel and a sanatorium during World War 2. The building's dilapitated appearance and rich history made it the perfect place for Kate to have her vibrant and youthful work.
Since leaving school Kate has gone on to teach English in Honduras, where various encounters with Central American culture enriched her artwork and in particualr providied beautiful subjects for her photography portfolio. Her work in Honduras saw her travel across Central America, where she visited Nicaragua and Guatamala among other places. This exploration introduced Kate to many new art forms and techniques, and the artists that she met on her travels became life long inspirations.
Kate is currently studying at UCL, where her degree in Social Anthroplogy allows her to pursue her interests in different cultures and artforms. Whilst in London she has joined numerous photography society, increasing her knoweldge in stop motion animation and film, an new avenue that Kate is pursuing for her artwork. Kate is currently in Barcelona on a year abroad.
When not creating art, Kate enjoys travelling, having visited Nepal, Italy, Japana, Madrid and Prague in the last year alone. She is also a talented musician, having achieved Grade 8 in Piano and Cello. Kate has displayed her work at the Hydro, the Queen's Hall and in National Geographic magazine, where she won a highly commended award. Kate currently resides in Northumberland, with her parents, sister Becky, and two cats Pebble and Smudge.
